This blog post was inspired by a conversation I
had with my sister-in-law a few nights ago. We were talking about movies from our generation that we’ve shared with our kids. Listed below are all the movies my husband and I have shown our 5 year old and almost 4 year old – why? Because we’re raising our kids right one movie at a time.
The Last Starfighter
The Explorers – according to my husband we named one of our children after a character in this movie. I’m so glad he shared that with me.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – the Gene Wilder version. Though we are both big fans of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, we do not acknowledge their version of this classic.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial – “It was nothing like that, penis breath!” Best line from a movie. Ever!
Wizard of Oz
And, in honor of Halloween:
Hocus Pocus (I wanted to introduce the kids to The Shining, but my husband said we had to wait until our oldest was at least seven.)
There is one more movie I’d really like to buy and share with my kids and it’s The Worst Witch. I love, love love this movie!
The problem is this movie isn’t available anywhere. If you go to Amazon, they’ll refer you to another seller and said seller wants $78 for this movie. I. Don’t. Think. So.
Clink on the link if you don’t believe me, but please! For all that is good and holy in this world, Do NOT! Buy this movie at this price. It’s good but not $78 good.
So this is how we’re raising our kids right. At least as far as pop-culture and movies are concerned. What about you? How are you raising your kids right? Tell me what movies/books/traditions you’re sharing with your kids.
