Dear Ellen: M&Ms Finally Wrote Back

I write letters to Ellen DeGeneres.  Why? Because I Can!

Dear Ellen,

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote to M&Ms to tell them how much my son LOVED their white M&Ms.  If you need a refresher, you can read about it here. After not hearing anything from them for a while, I decided to write my own response.  Guess what, Ellen!  There’s been a development.  The M&Ms people wrote back!!!  Here is their response:

Dear Allison:

Thank you for your email.

We’re pleased to hear you and your family enjoy our M&M’S® Chocolate Candies and appreciate your taking the time to tell us so. Your comments will be shared with our Marketing Associates.

Have a great day!

Personally, I think my response was much better, but that’s only my opinion.  Anyway, we’ve long since run out of white M&Ms for my toddler to eat as a potty training reward.  Last week, I picked up a bag of the milk chocolate Harvest M&Ms.  As it turns out, the yellow M&Ms from the Harvest batch – an entirely different shade of yellow from the regular batch – are now his preferred reward.  So, I wrote another letter to the M&Ms people.  Here it is:

Dear M&Ms,

I first wrote to you a few weeks ago to tell you how great the white M&Ms, provided in the Fourth of July mix, were for potty training my 3 1/2-year-old. Eventually we ran out of all M&Ms. While at the store last week, I grabbed a bag of the milk chocolate Harvest M&Ms. The white M&Ms are now officially a thing of the past. Now, whenever there is a potty training victory, my son requests the yellow M&Ms from the Harvest Mix. There’s no fooling this kid. He knows the difference between those yellow M&Ms and the regular yellow M&Ms. Also, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for responding to my first email regarding the white M&Ms. Although, I was a tad disappointed that the response was generic and read like it was straight off a form letter. If you wouldn’t mind, please send something more original next time.

Sincerely,

A. Marie Silver

P.S. My mother was upset you didn’t include a coupon with your last response.

Do you think my critique of their letter was harsh?

Sincerely,

A. Marie Silver
