October 9, 1812 (The War of 1812) – There was a naval engagement on Lake Erie where American forces captured 2 British Ships -The HMS Detroit and HMS Caledonia.

October 9, 1888 – The Washington Monument officially opened to the general public.

October 9, 1907 – Las Cruces, NM was incorporated.

                  1919 – Cincinnati Reds won the world series.

                  1935 – Prince Edward, Duke of Kent was born.

                  1940 – John Lennon was born

                   1952 – Sharon Osbourne was born

                   1953 – Actor Tony Shaloub was born

                   1954 – Actor Scott Bakula was born

                   1975 – Sean Lennon, John’s son, was born.  (I triple-checked this one to make sure.)

                  1986 – The Phantom of the opera had its first performance at Her Majesty’s Theatre in
                             London.

Also on this day in history:

2002 – Aileen Wuornos was executed. (Charlize Theron won an Oscar for portraying this super, scary serial killer in Monster.)

And on this day in 2006 – Google purchased YouTube for a whopping $1.65 billion.

Today is my birthday!  Look at me!  I’m adorable!  Sigh.  Every time I look at this picture and see how adorable I was, I wonder:  What happened?
